Forget Regret and Get Knitting and Crocheting!

“Forget Regret or Life is Yours to Miss (From the musical production of Rent).”

I suppose that’s how you know when it’s time to go after a life long passion… you realize if you fail to grab the opportunity at that moment it will, without fail, become an unchecked item on your “bucket list”. Owning a yarn store has been a dream of mine for decades. This dream may very well have started at the age of 6, when my beautiful mother taught me to knit and purl ever so patiently. I still have those plastic straight knitting needles I started to knit with nearly 4 decades ago.

We all have many dreams we go after as we progress through life’s journey. Being an attorney and then an accountant were on my list at one time too. However, I landed professionally in a much more creative field, the interior design world, where I worked for 2 decades in the retail and wholesale fabric sectors learning the ins and outs of fabric design, manufacturing, and construction.

In reality, fabric is not so different than yarn.  Both affect me viscerally when I touch them. While I thoroughly loved working with luxurious fabrics, decorative trimmings and soft sheers, it was never a passion fulfilled. My yearning for taking my passion for knitting into something more was still churning and thus I finally decided that it was time for this passion to be checked off “the list”.

I launched The Yarn Attic’s web-store 4 weeks ago this week after months of preparation. It has been quite a learning experience of course and more work than I ever thought to get a web-store off the ground, however every moment added ever so slightly to fulfilling my goal; like knitting another stitch on circular needles while your work grows so subtly. Stitch by stitch my passion is being realized.

Thank you to those of you who have supported and encouraged me. I have already met so many lovely people in this industry and fellow needle-crafters who share my passion. I am over-flowing with anticipation to see what awaits The Yarn Attic and our future plans to expand and become a LYS!

In the meantime knit, slip-stitch and inhale the joy your work brings you!
